Slump forces Enel U-turn on rights issue

Enel’s decision to reverse its policy and seek to raise up to €8bn ($10.3bn) in Italy’s largest rights issue was forced on it by the slumping markets, the company said Thursday.

“Up until a few months ago I thought we were on safe ground,” said Fulvio Conti, chief executive of Europe’s second-largest power generation utility, and its most indebted.
