MP in expenses furore resigns

David Wilshire, the Conservative MP who allegedly had office expenses paid to a company he owns, will stand down at the next general election, it was announced on Thursday night.

The news came after Mr Wilshire, who had referred the issue to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, was questioned by Patrick McLoughlin, the Tory chief whip.
