Politicians have tried to pass the blame for the expenses uproar engulfing Westminster as the Commons authorities called in the police to try to find the source of leaked data that has embarrassed the political class.
Apologies from MPs were scarce on Friday in spite of the publication of a tide of leaked expenses claims giving lurid details of Westminster’s formerly opaque expenses regime.
