Hauliers bear brunt of fall in road traffic

Road traffic in the UK fell by 3.5 per cent in the first three months of 2009, according to government figures released on Thursday.

Heavy goods vehicles showed the steepest drop, decreasing by 12 per cent compared with the first quarter of 2008. Car traffic fell by 3 per cent and traffic on motorways was down 5 per cent.
