GE will not challenge for Dow Jones

General Electric is not interested in challenging Rupert Murdoch’s $5bn bid for Dow Jones following the collapse of low-level discussions between its NBC unit and Microsoft over a possible counter-offer for the media group.

People close to the situation said that in spite of speculation that GE might act as a “white knight” for the publisher of the Wall Street Journal, the US industrial conglomerate did not want to invest in news papers.
