Assurers hope for future US Tarp funding

Some insurance companies could be eligible for capital injections in future stages of the US government’s recapitalisation programme, after establishment of a federal regulation test as the prime criterion by US officials.

But the Bush administration is trying to hold the line against pressure to expand the programme further to include auto finance companies, other non-bank financial firms and insurance companies that are not subject to federal supervision.
