Unions warn employers to expect demands for big pay increases

Unions warned employers they can expect a backlash from workers demanding big pay increases to cope with the largest rise in the cost of living for 15 years.

Tony Woodley, general secretary of the T&G, one of the largest unions, is launching a campaign this week calling on union pay negotiators to "raise their sights" by seeking increases significantly above the annual rise in the retail price index - currently 4.4 per cent.
