Insurance chief denies knowledge of fraud

The former head of the collapsed Independent Insurance yesterday told a court he was kept in the dark about an alleged "black hole" of £50m in the company's finances.

Michael Bright, one of three former Independent executives being tried on fraud charges, denied overseeing a company that was "riddled with fraud" in the run up to its high-profile demise in 2001.
