Colgate gets its teeth into Tom's brand

With their line-up of gingermint, baking soda andapricot-flavoured toothpastes, Tom and Kate Chappell have done a brisk trade in all-natural oral care since they founded Tom's of Maine with a loan of $5,000 in 1970.

Yesterday the couple sold a majority stake inthe company to Colgate-Palmolive for $100m in cash.
