Biggest test ahead is to woo fickle electorate

If Gordon Brown's appeal to the Labour faithful in Manchester is answered and he succeeds Tony Blair as party leader, he will sooner or later have to make his case to a larger and more fickle group: the British electorate.

Nowhere will that task be more pressing than in Battersea, south-west London.
