An army psychiatrist described as being unhappy about being posted to Iraq opened fire at the US’s biggest army base on Thursday, leaving 13 people dead and 31 wounded, according to Texas officials.

The gunman was in custody after the incident at Fort Hood in Texas. Three other people were initially detained over their possible role in the incident.
