Insurers win battle over cap set on new pensions savings scheme

Insurers have won out over consumer groups and the wishes of some employers over how much people should be allowed to put into the pensions savings scheme that the government plans to launch in 2012.

John Hutton, the pensions secretary, is expected to announce today a cap of £3,600 a year in contributions at 2005 prices, rising in line with earnings.
