US trade gap hits five-year low

The US trade gap shrunk by 29 per cent to $40.4bn in November, the commerce department said on Tuesday, as plunging oil prices led the sharpest deficit contraction in 12 years.

The November trade deficit hit a five-year low as the economic recession has curbed US consumption. Imports in November plummeted by 12 per cent after falling by just 1.6 per cent the month before.
