Villagers in an area south of Baghdad where more than 50 bodies were pulled from the Tigris River said on Thursday that scores more people kidnapped by insurgents were still missing.
The grisly discovery in the Madaen district, where Iraqi officials last week claimed Sunni Arab insurgents had taken up to 150 Shia residents hostage, was a worrying sign that guerrillas have begun ethnic-cleansing operations in a nation beset by sectarian tensions.
