Private sector suppliers are being forced to increase the diversity of their workforces and improve their green credentials to win contracts worth billions with London authorities.

The Greater London Auth-ority Group, which includes Transport for London, the Metropolitan police and the London Development Agency, and spends £3bn a year on goods and services, has written new "responsible procurement" clauses into dozens of large contracts.
