Australia to end champagne exports

The 2007 vintage of Australian champagne is set to become a collector’s item after Canberra on Wednesday agreed to ban the use of champagne, port and other geographical terms used by the European wine industry.

The deal with the European Union, which has to be ratified by both sides, is unlikely to do much to stem the flood of Australian wines that have displaced traditional producers but may boost European exports.
