Legal challenge on music rights ruling

British music rights holders will on Friday launch the first legal challenge to a decision by European competition regulators, which threatens to break up the system of national monopolies that collect money for composers and songwriters.

London-based MCPS-PRS Alliance, which acts for music rights holders, is filing an appeal with one of the top European courts in ­Luxembourg against the antitrust authorities’ decision, which was handed down – amid huge furore – in July.
