MEPs oppose expansion of EU until treaty deal

The European Union should close its doors to new entrants until it sorts out what to do with its half-dead constitutional treaty, the European parliament said on Thursday.

The parliament’s vote increases the pressure on EU leaders to salvage part of the constitution, which was rejected by Dutch and French voters last year.
