Sir, Sadly, Jagdish Bhagwati undermines the cause of free trade in the United States ("America's bipartisan battle against free trade", Ft.com April 8). He attacks some of free trade's strongest proponents, who contend in the arena where politics and economics must be reconciled. He ignores the multiple benefits of US free trade agreements. And his political advice makes it harder to build a coalition with the US Congress to advance freer trade.
