Oracle dispute with European trade watchdog intensifies

The battlelines between Europe's top competition watchdog and Oracle hardened yesterday, when Brussels described the US software company's strident overnight attack on their objections to its proposed $7.4bn acquisition of Sun Microsystems as "facile and superficial".

The European Commission also revealed that customer complaints had been one of the driving forces behind concerns about the impact that the controversial deal could have on the database market.
