European M&A at lowest level since 1994

European merger and acquisition bankers have had one of their worst starts to a year in more than a decade, while watching their US counterparts gain brisk business.

January and February have been two of the slowest months for European M&A activity, with just 1,494 deals, worth $73.4bn, according to data from Thomson Financial. That level of activity was last seen in 1994.
