Sir Derek Higgs: City grandee and ardent motorcyclist

Sir Derek Higgs, best known for his groundbreaking report on the role of non-executive directors on company boards, has died at the age of 64, it was announced on Tuesday.

Alliance & Leicester, the mortgage lender where Sir Derek had served on the board for the last three years, described the former investment banker’s contribution to British business as “outstanding” and said he would be sadly missed.
