A request for businesses to contribute to facilities will be among initiatives aimed at increasing sports participation in the UK, the new sports minister said yesterday.

In his first public comments since taking on the role, Gerry Sutcliffe said that getting the private sector to fund sports participation was not unlike businesses funding school academies.
