After weeks of sensitive negotiations, Vodafone and Essar on Thursday unveiled a partnership agreement on how the UK telecoms group and the Mumbai-based conglomerate will work together at Hutchison Essar, India’s fourth largest mobile operator.

But it also emerged that another set of delicate negotiations had been taking place in parallel.
