Home sales by Bellway, the UK’s third biggest housebuilder, fell by 38 per cent in the six months to the end of January amidst moribund housing and mortgage markets.

In a trading update, the Newcastle-based company also said that margins could fall by more than 50 per cent compared with the 18.1 per cent decline recorded in the same period last year.
