Court refuses to make securities fraud suits easier

Handing victory to the business community, the US Supreme Court yesterday refused to make it easier for plaintiffs to sue for securities fraud.

Ruling in a closely watched case, the justices unanimously struck down a ruling from a federal appeals court that would have substantially lowered the hurdle to bringing some kinds of securities suits. But legal experts said yesterday's ruling left plenty of room for plaintiffs to sue and recover for legitimate losses in fraud cases.
