Although overseas income represents a small proportion of the total for UK consultancies, it is rising fast. According to the Office for National Statistics, business management and management consulting exports amounted to £5.1bn in 2006, up from £1.1bn in 2001.
This is mirrored by the members of the Management Consultancies Association (MCA), whose 2007 activities overseas, including consulting, outsourcing and systems development, totalled £198m ($294m), an increase of 136 per cent in only a year. This does not include the overseas earnings of the large global firms.
