New tax charges on trusts will affect even more people than previously thought, lawyers said yesterday.

Trust practitioners and the life insurance industry have already warned that more than a million wills may need to be rewritten and that several million life policies could be hit by the tax. Yesterday the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners added the families of individuals who die without leaving a will to the list of those that could be hit.
