Bank deputy warns of threat to recovery

The Bank of England’s cautious outlook for the economy was underscored on Thursday when one of its leading officials warned that lingering problems with the banks threatened to delay recovery.

Charlie Bean, the Bank’s deputy governor, said in a speech last night that while economic data from around the world suggested the recession was slowing down, there were still powerful reasons for concern.
