Europe’s banks come under heavy selling

European banks came under heavy selling on Thursday as renewed fears over the health of US financial institutions dragged shares lower for a seventh session.

Rumours originating in Europe that a large US bank could be nationalised over the weekend were cited by traders as sparking a wave of selling of European financial stocks in the afternoon.
