It is as though the last 10 years never happened. Since publishing its well-received third-quarter results last Thursday, Amazon.com has gained more than 30 per cent. That takes it to an all-time high. And that is amazing.
No company symbolised the dotcom boom better than Amazon, the first online retailer to go public. By the time it peaked for the first time in December 1999, it had gained 6,000 per cent in the 30 months since its flotation. It did so without making a profit.
