Brown pressed on fuel poverty package

Gordon Brown on Wednesday came under intense political pressure to squeeze extra cash out of Britain’s energy companies to tackle fuel poverty, amid Labour concerns that his autumn fightback is already fizzling out.

Mr Brown was forced to postpone an announcement on a fuel poverty package this week after energy companies refused to fund it, prompting claims he had “surrendered to blackmail”.
