Modern monumentalism - Tate extension

Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron yesterday unveiled dramatic new proposals for the £215m extension to Tate Modern.

Their first design, revealed two years ago, was for a cubist glass pyramid radically in contrast to the the original brick power station. The new proposal instead envisages a striking brick ziggurat looming behind the turbine hall.
