Straw puts paid to speculation of cut in number of troops in Iraq

Jack Straw, the foreign secretary, put paid to any speculation of cuts in troop numbers in Iraq when he warned yesterday that Britain still faced considerable challenges in the country.

Mr Straw found himself forced to defend the government's policy in Iraq as Labour party members used a conference debate on foreign affairs to renew their criticism of the war.
