Germany close to ratifying Lisbon treaty

Germany’s constitutional court gave a green light in principle to the Lisbon treaty on Tuesday but suspended its ratification until the German parliament had amended the law governing its influence over European legislation.

“The constitution says yes to Lisbon, but requires from the national level a reinforcement of parliamentary responsibilities in the field of integration,” Andreas Vosskuhle, vice-president of the court.
