Halfords’ profits hold up

In spite of sagging sales, Halfords managed to avoid a drop in profitability in the last quarter as the bicycle and car parts chain tightened its grip on costs.

Sales dropped 7.8 per cent year-on-year in the 13 weeks to 26 December 2008 after stripping out the effect of new store openings, a sharp decline after 9 months of steady sales.
