Russia seeks investments in Yamal gas fields

Russia is trying to attract the world’s biggest energy companies to invest in the gas reserves of the arctic Yamal peninsula, with the prospect of bartering assets abroad for direct participation in the lucrative Russian gas fields.

Vladimir Putin, prime minister, on Thursday met top officials of 10 energy companies, including ExxonMobil and Royal Dutch Shell in the town of Salekhard, just north of the arctic circle, to sell them on the idea.
