Obama urged to double world health spending

Leading US medical specialists led by one of President-elect Barack Obama’s top scientific advisers on Monday called on the new administration to double its spending on global health as a ”pillar” of foreign policy.

A committee of the National Institute of Medicine, the independent and influential professional body, said the “US government should act in the global interest, recognising that long-term diplomatic, economic, and security benefits for the United States will follow.”
