Glasses raised to Diageo recovery hopes

Earnings optimism lifted Diageo on Tuesday as, for a fourth consecutive session, the FTSE 100 closed at its best level of the year.

The Smirnoff and Guinness maker was up 0.9 per cent to 971½p on hopes its results on Wednesday will show sales have troughed.
