Russia and Ukraine reach gas agreement

Russia and Ukraine reached a gas agreement on Wednesday after a damaging pricing dispute in which Moscow cut off supplies via the Kiev pipeline, hitting supplies to European consumers.

Alexei Miller, chief executive of Gazprom, the Russian energy company, said the five year deal, effective from January 1, would be based on a price of $230 per 1,000 cubic metres and would “ensure stable supplies to Europe”.
