Palacio to take World Bank post

Paul Wolfowitz, the president of the World Bank, on Friday evening announced the appointment of Ana Palacio, the former Spanish foreign minister, as senior vice-president and general counsel of the World Bank group.

The appointment of Ms Palacio, who as foreign minister in the pro-US administration of José María Aznar was a prominent supporter of the war in Iraq, adds a big name to the bank’s senior management team in a new and powerful position.
