What will Tony Blair do after he quits Downing Street? This is a question that excites much interest in London – but the answer is a closely guarded secret. For now, Mr Blair is working like a man with five more years to govern – not five more months.

This is hardly surprising. For the past 10 years, he has run the UK government, and he will still only be 54 when he comes to retire from frontline politics.
