Ian Paisley has made a career out of obstructing efforts to find a political accommodation between Northern Ireland's warring communities.

Yet now the firebrand MP for north Antrim may be ready to sign up to a historic compromise that would see his Democratic Unionists in a shared administration with arch-enemies in Sinn Féin, the IRA's political wing.
