Bush vows to press Kiev’s Nato claims

President George W. Bush on Tuesday promised Ukraine he would press for the nation to take a significant new step towards joining Nato at Wednesday’s summit, arguing that the outcome of negotiations should not be prejudged.

Speaking in Kiev on his way to Wednesday’s Nato meeting in Bucharest, Mr Bush praised the “bold decision” by Ukraine to seek to join the alliance, saying “Russia will not have a veto over what happens next” in the Romanian capital.
