Maxjet collapses into bankruptcy

Maxjet Airways, one of the new breed of all-business class long-haul airlines, collapsed into bankruptcy on Christmas Eve, stranding hundreds of passengers in the midst of transatlantic holiday journeys.

The US airline, which was only floated on the London stock exchange in July, announced on Monday that it had been forced by its rapidly deteriorating finances to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the US, which would lead to sale or liquidation.
