Probe into state aid to Alitalia

An emergency €300m Italian government loan to loss-making airline Alitalia is to be investigated by the European Commission, which could order it to be repaid.

Ryanair, the Irish low-cost carrier, said yesterday it would file a complaint about the deal, which would trigger a Commission probe. Any state aid must be vetted and approved by Brussels.
