Bleak outlook persists

In a week relatively lacking in hard new information about the state of the UK economy, the markets turned their attention to the metaphorical movements of Mervyn King’s eyebrow.

The governor of the Bank of England said, in an interview with a Newcastle newspaper on Thursday, that the roughly 20 per cent drop in the pound over the course of the financial crisis was “helpful” in rebalancing the UK economy.
