Weakened PM calls snap Greek election

Costas Karamanlis, the Greek prime minister, called a snap general election on Wednesday amid mounting economic problems and worsening infighting in his governing New Democracy party.

The move, halfway through the government’s four-year term, highlighted Mr Karamanlis’s weakening grip on power.
