UK homeowners injected far more cash into their homes in the third quarter than had been expected and slashed borrowing against them, according to Bank of England data released on Monday.
Homeowners borrowed £5.7bn less against their properties in the three months to September than they paid off in mortgage debt, making the drop in housing equity withdrawal (HEW) in the third quarter the biggest of any single quarter since the series began in 1970.
