Russia’s supreme court asked prosecutors to reopen an investigation into the murder of journalist Anna Politkovskaya on Thursday, following a request by her family to gather more evidence in the October 2006 contract-style shooting that eliminated a notable opponent of the Kremlin.
This will be the second trial in the Politkovskaya case. The first, which ended in February, acquitted three men accused of playing minor roles in the crime, but the Supreme Court overturned the not guilty verdicts.
